This past weekend I made my way back down to the South... Atlanta, GA to be specific. While down there I was invited to attend an exclusive event. I was pretty much ready, but my friend Scott M. wanted to go to J.Crew at Lenox Mall and chose a Bixby inspired look. Check it...

The vest gives it the equestrian Andre 3 stacks feel
It's not cool for men to match their ties and shirts,
they should always have opposite patterns; we chose
plaid shirt & striped tie- it's what the best dressed do.
Some may have opted to tuck the shirt in,
but that's up to you. Don't you love how the tie screams
Georgia Tech (which, by the way, is one of Andre 3000's
favorite teams, you can easily spot him at
Bobby Dodd Stadium on any given Saturday...
usually the high profile games though)

his Bejamin Bixby line has yet to make it to the south...
but you can find it online, or you can create your own
Benjamin Bixby look at stores like J.Crew, it's up to you.

I actually think your eye for style is usually on point. This ensemble however is rather lacking. I do not like the colors or the way that the tie and shirt are such opposites. I am not bashing or anything, its just that it seems a little off.
ReplyDeletecompletely cool. its understandable- not everyone can handle the contrast in patterns. But it is the freshest way to style yourself. Of course its okay to match, but if you pay close attention to the most stylish men in the world you'll usually see them having a completely opposite shirt and tie pattern and sometimes the colors will be just as opposite. It takes getting used to, but you just have to try it out...
ReplyDeletesome notable examples can be seen in movies such as ocean's 13, al pacinos suits were sooo on point in the movie and his shirt and tie patterns contrasted...
(now of course the tie selection in j.crew is a little lacking, if we were in nordstrom or bloomingdales i may (just may) have picked out something slightly dift.
its hot Jacinda, i like it alot actually. i think your right though, not everyone can pull of the contrast patterns, but this brother looks good. it actually reminds me of the outfit andre wore when he debuted his line except for he had on jeans instead of khakis or cords.
ReplyDeleteoh and as far as the colors go, well thats just the southern way, lol... no, but really the ensemble is a nod to the south and to designers like benjamin bixby... the southern/farmer/worker look is at the top these days...

ReplyDeleteI due think this is a refreshing style, in comparison to the thuggish look I see on the daily. The tie and shirt is a nice contrast. I would love to see more of the Bixby on the West coast, California in particular. I am so tired of the look we have been sporting here...
